There is definitely an odd voyeur-esque aspect to blogland. Dooce writes about people coming up to her in Utah and being "Hey, it's you! From the blog!" Yikes. I had a back-and-forth with a blog friend (on their blog, in a non-The Mal persona), then met that person for lunch, then we resumed the back-and-forth on the blog post-lunch.
